Now that we are further into the first quarter, our expectations as freshman have been set higher. The work load has increased, and more tests are starting to be given out. Teachers are still just as helpful as they were towards the beggining of the year, just not as lenient about late work or tardies. I've learned that in high school teachers expect alot more from you and you definately have to put forth more effort. But although we are given more homework, we are given two days to finish it (the block scheduling goes every other day) plus a 40 minute seminar every day to get it done-so that's a plus.
A thing I've noticed about high school is the amount of freedom they give you. Teachers allow you to use the restroom/get drinks pretty much whenever (unless you are abusing this right), you are allowed to sit wherever and get up whenever you want during lunch, and overall the teachers seem to treat you more like adults. Once you actually get to high school, you will notice more of the freedoms and rights you are given though.
Something else I've learned about high school is that if you get involved with extra-curriculars and attend out of school events (such as Homecoming and sporting events) it makes school alot more fun and motivates you to want to go to school. It also is a fun way to hang out with friends and meet new people. If you are in a club or on a sports team, you are given the right to be on a float in the homecoming parade and that is definately alot of fun. Homecoming week in general is a blast- the hallways are decorated crazy, you get to attend the homecoming bonfire on a night that week & the homecoming football game, and of course the formal homecoming dance.
As the first quarter of high school comes to an end, I am definately enjoying everything it has to offer on top of the higher work load.
